Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris France to British parents Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson who were both lawyers. As a young girl of just five, she moved to Oxfordshire and attended an Oxfordshire-based Dragon School. Emma was aspired to be a professional actress when she was just six. She was enrolled at Stagecoach Theatre Arts in Oxford, an acting institute that offers part-time classes. When she was ten, she was performing and taking the lead in various Stagecoach productions and school plays. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2000) the movie adaptation of J.K. Rowling's bestselling British novel began casting in 1999. Emma was found by casting agents through Emma's Oxford theatre teacher. David Heyman announced to Emma that following eight auditions they as well as Rupert Grint were chosen as Hermione and Harry Potter. Emma's film debut coincided with the release Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2002). The film set records for beginning-day and weekend-opening sales and became the top-grossing movie of 2001. The film was praised by critics and the performances of the three leading actors of the young generation. The Daily Telegraph praised Emma for her outstanding performance. Emma was awarded five nominations for her exceptional performance. Later, she won the Young Artist Award in Leading Young Actress in a Film.
